Dark Destiny is a fan made prequel to the original King's Field release in the U.S. King's Field: Dark Destiny follows the journey of the downward spiral of the great warrior Dias Bagil (Necron) as he uncovers the secrets of Melanat Island and unlocks his inner powers of darkness.

The focal point of this game is to fill in some back story about the inhabitants of the island and to provide an alternative view of the events that unfolded to create the history to the official King's Field II release.

A hard copy version of the final release was available temporarily that had a short run of 15 copies produced. Packed with the game was a full color manual, a mapbook detailing all the areas of the game, a translated copy of the original King's Field in Sword of Moonlight format as well as a comprehensive sound track to all the King's Field games including over 130 tracks.

Synopsis

Characters

  • North Village
    • Nola Bagil - Necron's sister who recently traveled with her brother and Fai Fadlin to the island to help her brother escape the death sentence placed upon him in Verdite. A kind-hearted woman, she wants only what is best for her brother but is afraid of what will become of him as he seeks out the mysterious dark power he felt coming from the island.
    • Fai Fadlin - Necron's best friend, a friend of the family since childhood, Fai travels to Melanat to assist Dias in finding the hidden power of the island. A skilled cartographer and tradesman, he helps Dias gather information about the island since he cannot travel freely beyond the areas controlled by Verdite soldiers.
    • Al Hunt - A rather portly fellow, Al used to be a miner on the island until he was hurt in a cave in. Now he spends his days eating and raising a small herb garden which he converts into liquid herbs and sells to the local townsfolk. He has an interest in Nola Bagil.
    • Kirk Gamauf - A low ranking guard employed by the stationed Verdite garrison to provide security at the entrance to North Village. He often taunts the villagers and quite often is found making rude comments knowing he can get away with shooting his mouth off since he belongs to the garrison.
  • South Village
    • Harry Simmons - An old and shrewd businessman, Harry operates the only 'inn' on Melanat Island and charges a high price for a night's stay knowing full well he has a monopoly on the business. Not interested in much talk, he prefers only to share his wealth of knowledge to paying customers.
    • Jacob Lesnar - The self proclaimed mayor of South Village, he started out as a bouncer for the Miner's Guild in Central Village until he actually got into a fight with a customer at the bar and got beat up. He moved to South Village and used his large size to bully the villagers into calling him mayor and now collects taxes for his own personal gain.
    • Raffy Foss - Nephew to Celffy Foss, Raffy decided to open a shop up in South Village to peddle the wares his uncle couldn't sell to the miners in Central Village. He makes very few sales and what little he does earn is heavily taxed by the mayor. His wife often gives him a hard time about his failures.
    • Julia Foss - Raffy's wife, and a would-be noble woman. Julia traveled to the island with her family and was left on the island when the ship they came on was destroyed during an earthquake which shattered the beachfront of Central Village, also killing her parents. She married Raffy as a means to survive since he was the only available elf she could find on the island.
    • Thomas Eversole - A stranded prince in search of a lost artifact, he has traveled from a far off land with a shady ship captain to locate the crown that will save his kingdom.
  • West Garrison

Release notes

V1.07 - Updated 8/26/10:

NOTE - THE FOLLOWING PATCH WILL HAVE ISSUES WITH SAVED GAMES CREATED IN PRIOR VERSIONS...PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! This patch will heavily modify the placed objects in the existing game maps. Unfortunately, save games also include the position of objects that are on maps, so if the map area or objects are moved in a patch, the saved game position for those objects takes priority. This patch will render previous games unplayable. This patch should be downloaded for anyone that will be playing the game for the first time or will be starting over.

New Content -Magical waters can be found all across Melanat, but they do not all hold the same power as the water of the central Dragon Fountain. Blue water (which restores more health than golden water but does not restore magic) and Red water (which restores more magic than golden water but does not restore health) can be found at special dragon fountains. -The library has been updated to include all enemies that can be found in the game.

-Added the Seath's Helmet, see if you can find this mystical artifact. -Gossip is at an all time high across the island, the folk have been sharing even more secrets and information than before. Be sure to talk to everyone, they may have something new to say.

Bug Fixes -Fixed many bugs within the library that were causing some discoveries to disappear randomly. All monsters encountered and defeated should now remain showing in the library.

-Fixed several bugs with NPCs that were still not talking to you at some point in the game.

-Drastically modified the layering of grass and trees in several areas that caused graphical slow down within the game. Travel through the forest and the lake area in particular should be noticeably smoother.

V1.06 - Updated 1/18/10:

NOTE - THE FOLLOWING PATCH WILL HAVE ISSUES WITH SAVED GAMES CREATED IN PRIOR VERSIONS...PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! This patch will introduce the first real map layout patch. Unfortunately, save games also include the position of objects that are on maps, so if the map area or objects are moved in a patch, the saved game position for those objects takes priority. This patch will not render previous games unplayable, however it will cause some visual issues on the western shore and earth cave core maps, notably, the placement of certain objects will be slightly out of place. This patch should be downloaded for anyone that will either be starting from scratch or is nearly finished with their game.

New Content -The tides of the western shore have changed, revealing a new pathway to the fiery lighthouse. Beware this new path, with the change in tides, new creatures have come to the surface and are now on the hunt for fresh food. -Two new item models have been added to the game. These items are rare drops from certain enemies within the game. See if you can find the new items! -Gossip is at an all time high across the island, the folk have been sharing even more secrets and information than before. Be sure to talk to everyone, they may have something new to say.

Bug Fixes -Fixed many bugs within the library that were causing some discoveries to dissappear randomly. All monsters encountered and defeated should now remain showing in the library. -Fixed a bug that caused you not to be able to find the Ancient Relic on one of the gravestones in the West Garrison area....but what does the Ancient Relic do? -Moved the height difference for the drop down on the earth cave core to the earth cave surface so that it makes more sense to go uphill to fall somewhere that is on a higher level than your starting point. -Modified enemy stats again to improve player chances early on in the game. -Fixed several map warp points throughout so you no longer walk off to your doom. -Fixed a barrel bug in the earth cave/big mine so you can't get stuck next to Michael North any more. -Fixed a bug with many NPCs that caused them to stop interacting later in the game. -The Curator now speaks to you in Verdite Castle. -Fixed a bug with several star key guide posts and removed an extraneous one in the central hub area. -Fixed some bugs with item consumption. -Removed many incorrect items from certain treasure boxes throughout the game. -Added a sign to help adventurers find the access way to Atainius's Fortress in the Lost Lagoon. -Dumbed down some grass graphics to improve speed in several maps. -Reworded NPC dialog to clarify intentions.

V1.05 - Updated 1/3/10:

-Fixed dialogue with several shop keepers that would stop talking to you part way through the game. -Fixed several chests which either had no way to open them or contained an item they shouldn't have had (this is not a retroactive fix for in progress save games) -Fixed the sealed door in the dragon warrior area -Fixed the save crystal in the colosseum -Fixed a door bug in the colosseum

-Reduced the hit points of the green slime and termite enemies that appear in the first 3 maps 1/3. What took 7-8 strikes to kill should now take ~5.

-Changed the properties of the tidal band from MP absorb with potency 1 to MP recover potency 1. Would like feedback if this makes the item more balanced.

-Added the final battle cut music (was missing before).

-Fixed a few more death sequence events throughout the game.

-Made the leather boots in the starting area easier to find and also added a leather chest guard piece to find in the north village. Upgraded the armor found on the west shore to a breast plate. Hopefully this will assist low level players.

-A few more pieces of armor are now available at Raffy's shop in case you could not locate their hidden whereabouts.

-Modified the Thedeck's Wish accessory, it was overpowered before.

-Modified the Harvine's Ring accessory, it was underpowered before.

-Fixed a save point in the central forest.

-Added more conversation to the mayor in southern village.

V 1.03 - Updated 12/29/09:

-Fixed a bug in the eastern village area that caused the star key to not be consumed when put into the key pedestal. Also fixed the functionality of the star gate when used with this pedestal.

-Lowered the attack power of the green slimes in the opening villages. This reduction should make a significant difference in the amount of damage they can inflict upon you if you are wearing armor.

-Increased the weight of the Necron's Blade level 2 and level 3 form to balance the refresh time with other weapons of the same level.

-Increased the casting cost and casting refresh time on the Dark Bolt spell to make it more in line with the other magics.

-Added the appropriate sword magic to the Necron's Soul Flame weapon.
